Tychique Ciamala was in care from the age of 15 and moved into semi independent when he was 18. He then moved into full independent living when he was 22. Tychique was on his council's youth panel for 3 years and he volunteers with their Virtual Schools. Virtual schools work with children and young people in care and education. Since 2015 Ty has been writing spoken word poetry.
