Return to Cranford

2009

Elizabeth Gaskell (1810-1865) is a Care Experienced writer. She grew up in kinship care with an aunt after her mother died. Cranford (2007) and Return to Cranford (2009) are television series adapted from some of Gaskells stories.
There's a fleeting mention of a 'foundling' working as a servant for Mrs Forrester in Cranford and in Return to Cranford, Michelle Dockery plays Erminia, a ward of the wealthy Mr Buxton. Erminia was orphaned when very young and sent off to boarding school in Brussells.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
