Pray for Our Sinners

2022

Pray for Our Sinners (2023) is a documentary by Irish film-maker and journalist, Sinead O’Shea.

In the documentary, O’Shea speaks to those people in her home town of Navan in Co Meath who spoke up about abuse by the Catholic church during the 1960s and 1970s, at a time when challenging church authorities was an extraordinary thing to do.

In particular, O’Shea speaks to those who campaigned against the Magdalene Laundries, and against several corporal punishment meted out in Catholic schools.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
