In the Woods (2007) follows the investigation by two Irish detectives of the murder of a 12-year-old year. One detective, Rob Ryan—who is narrating In the Woods—was sent away to boarding school as a child after being involved in a distressing childhood incident. The other detective, Cassie Maddox, was in kinship care as a child. This story, along with The Likeness, was adapted for the 2019 television series, Dublin Murders.
