Brutal-Surviving Westbrook Boys Home

Al 'Crow' Jorgensen Fletcher et al.

2011

This is the harrowing, true story of life inside one of Queensland’s most feared institutions for orphaned, disadvantaged and Aboriginal youth. Thousands of children spent their formative years in fear and misery. All were scarred by the experience. Some perished. Many ‘graduated’ to adult institutions. Crow Fletcher survived to tell his tale.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
