Fiction featuring Care Experience

Winter Solstice

Rosamund Pilcher

2000

A loosely connected group end up spending advent together in a house in Scotland. One of them Lucy is an unhappy teenager. By the end of the novel it has been agreed that she will live with her new found family for the next few months, but it is implied that she will actually stay there until she is an adult.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
