Trustee from the Toolroom (1960) is an adventure story by English author Neville Shute (1899-1960).

Keith Stewart writes how-to articles for a magazine called The Miniature Mechanic.

Keith and his wife Katie have been left to care for their 10-year-old niece, Janice, while the parents, head off on a yachting jaunt.

Tragically, Janice’s parents die in a shipwreck.

Keith embarks on a journey to retrieve diamonds from the shipwrecked yacht. He wants to do this so that Janice can have the financial future she’d have had if she wasn’t orphaned.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
