The Zombies Singer Colin Blunstone Learned His Aunt Was His Mom. She Bared Her Soul to Him Right Before Dying

Jeremy Helligar

2025

Colin Blunstone of The Zombies shares in a new documentary that although he always knew he was adopted, he only discovered in his late twenties that the woman he believed was his aunt was actually his biological mother, who had hidden the truth after becoming pregnant by an American serviceman during World War II, a secret shaped by the strong social stigma of being unmarried at the time and revealed to him in an emotional conversation later in her life.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
