The Truman Show

1998

The Truman Show is a 1998 American psychological comedy-drama film starring Jim Carrey. Selected at birth and legally adopted by a television studio, Truman Burbank’s life is orchestrated from birth without his consent: and raised within a completely artificial environment. Truman lives his entire life as the unwitting star of a massive reality television show. Truman is constantly monitored by hidden cameras, his movements and relationships controlled for others’ entertainment.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
