The Tearsmith (2024) is an Italian teen romance based on the eponymous novel by Erin Doom.

Two teenagers grow up in the same orphanage, Sunnycreek Orphanage. Rigel (Simone Baldasseroni) has been there for as long as he can remember; Nica (Caterina Ferioli) since she was orphaned at the age of 8.

Rigel and Nica are adopted by the same couple but later rejects that adoption and returns to Sunnycreek and to the custody of Margaret Stoker (Sabrina Paravicini).

A friend of Nica’s, Adeline, brings charges against Margaret Stocker for the way she was treated in the orphanage. She wants Nica to testify for her.
