The Resident (2018-2023) is an American medical drama series.

From the 2nd season, Malcolm-Jamal Warner plays August Jeremiah “AJ/The Raptor” Austin, a prominent cardiothoracic surgeon who joins Chastain Park Memorial Hospital.

“The Raptor” Austin reveals during the series that his birth parents are both prominent doctors who gave him up for adoption to pursue their careers. He was raised by Carol and Yee Austin but searches out his birth parents during the show.

Other storylines with an adoption theme include Sammie (Chedi Chang) who was abandoned by her former guardian after surgery for a tumor & is later adopted by plastic surgeon Jake Wong (Conrad Ricamora) & his husband Gregg.

There is also (Season 5) Trevor Daniels (Miles Fowler) who is the biological son of Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas). When she was 13, Billie Sutton was raped by her neighbour & she put the resultant baby up for adoption.
