The Lost Children of Tuam

Irish Independent

2026

The article reviews The Lost Children of Tuam as a moving and understated film that honours historian Catherine Corless's years-long determination to uncover the truth about the unmarked graves of hundreds of children at the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home. It praises the film for focusing on Corless's quiet persistence and humanity rather than sensationalism, portraying her investigation as an act of compassion and justice that forced Ireland to confront a painful chapter of its past.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
