The Gathering

2024

The Gathering is a Merseyside-set drama about a teenage girl violently attacked at a rave on a tidal islet. The story follows a diverse group of teens and their parents, each with possible motives, while weaving in the worlds of competitive gymnastics and urban parkour to paint a vivid picture of a fractured community. In Episode 3, Adam (played by Sonny Walker) it transpires that Adam has spent time in care, likely due to the instability of his mother Nina's situation and mental health struggles, which makes him protective of his younger half-brother Kyran. Adam navigates two very different worlds—his working-class past and his current middle-class stepfamily environment.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
