The 31: Ukraine's stolen children

Slow News (2)

2023

On 17 March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Blova, Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights. The allegations are that the pair are responsible for the “unlawful transfer of population (children) from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation…at least from 24 February 2022.”

In this disturbing podcast, we hear about a Ukrainian man, now living in Latvia, whose 3 children were stolen. They were 3 in a group of 31 Ukrainian children who were snatched from Mariupol and taken to Russia.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
