Squirrel's Search for Love (4+ years)

Lisa Cherry

2026

Squirrel's Search for Love (2026) is Lisa Cherry's first children's book. When Squirrel’s beloved Grandma dies, the world feels quieter and Squirrel is left wondering where love goes when someone we love is no longer with us. Through a journey in nature, Squirrel discovers that love never truly disappears and can still be found all around us, offering a comforting story about grief, loss and remembering those we love. This is a book for younger children both in care or not as it deals witht the loss and grief of loved ones using anthropomorphism.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
