Sherwood

2024

Sherwood (2022-ongoing) is a British crime series created by James Graham and set in a Nottinghamshire mining village. It takes up some of the divisions in the community created by the 1984-1985 miners’ strike and which persist in 2004.

In Series 2 (2024), the son of Daphne Sparrow (Lorraine Ashbourne, formally a spy-cop during the 1980s) finds out that he has an older half-sister who was adopted out as a baby.

Ronan Sparrow (Bill Jones) locates his sister Rachel (Christine Bottomley) and the pair meet. They both witness the murder of Nicky Branson (Sam Buchanan).

Rachel becomes involved, along with Daphne, in the Branson family’s revenge killing.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
