Shadows in Paradise

Carolann Dowding

2013

Shadows in Parise (2013) is Carolann Dowding’s account of her search for her biological family.

Carolann Dowding grew up as n Redland City, Queensland during the 1950s. Although happy with her adoptive family she wanted to find out her family history.

Through her search, Carolann found out in 1987 that her birth mother, Edna, was working at a cattle station at the time of Carolann’s birth.

It took longer to find her biological father and Dowding enlisted the help of a private investigator in 2002. She was 54 when she found out she has a birth sister living in Sydney.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
