Jane Messer set out to understand why her Jewish German grandmother Bella took her 2 children from Berlin & abandoned them in an English boarding school. After a few initial visits, Bella didn’t see her children for 13 years.

Messer visited Berlin, Tel Aviv & Melbourne & along the way interviewed historians & other scholars in Germany as well in Israel.
