Oscar’s Layers (2023) is a children’s book by Australian writer, Felicity Graham, who 1st went into foster care when she was 7 years old.

The story follows Oscar Onion who goes from a group home to live with a new foster family with a single father. In foster care, Oscar learns to let adults help him being peeling back the protective layers he’s built up to shut others out.

Felicity Graham was only 20 when she published this, her second book.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
