Moonfleet

J. Meade Falkner

1898

Moonfleet is an 1898 adventure and historical novel written by British writer J. Meade Falkner. The plot is an adventure tale of smuggling, treasure, and shipwreck set in 18th-century England. In 1757, orphan John Trenchard becomes entangled with smuggler Elzevir Block after discovering their hiding place in Moonfleet’s church crypt, which is linked to the legend of Blackbeard Mohune’s lost diamond. Their quest for the jewel leads to betrayal, imprisonment, and loss, but years later John returns home, inherits the diamond’s value, restores the village, and marries his love, Grace, living out his days in Moonfleet.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
