Man on Fire

2026

Man on Fire (2026) is an American action thriller based on the eponymous 1980 novel by English writer Philip Nicholson, using the pseudonym AJ. Quinnell.

The protagonist is John Creasy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen), a former soldier who is suffering from PTSD & is an alcoholic. After attempting suicide, his friend Paul Rayburn (Bobby Cannavale) suggests he travel to Brazil with him to work to do security work.

Creasy hasn’t been long in Brazil when a bomb blast kills Rayburn & his family except for their eldest daughter Poe (Billie Boullet) who was out with friends at the time of the blast.

Because the now orphaned 15-year-old Poe is a witness, criminals are out to kill her too.

Creasy takes on the task of protecting Poe and taking revenge against the people who killed his friend.

While Poe is in hiding, another orphan, teenager Livro (Jefferson Baptista), is sent to take care of her & the 2 form a close bond.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
