Maddalena and the Dark

Julia Fine

2023

Maddalena and the Dark (2023) by American writer, Julia Fine, is a tale of friendship between two girls. One of the girls, Maddalena, is sent to Ospedale della Pieta as a teenager. The other, 15-year-old Luisas, wants to become a protégé of Vivaldi but is not the best violinist.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
