Little Wing

Freya North

2022

Little Wing by Freya North tells the interwoven stories of a teenage girl forced to give up her baby in the 1960s, and the lives affected by that decision decades later. As Nell searches for the truth about her past and Dougie seeks direction in his own life, their journeys lead them to the Outer Hebrides—where secrets are revealed and lives are forever changed. This story has both a birth mother's voice and that of her child, who as an adult finds out that her mum is biologically her aunt.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
