Little House on the Prairie

1974

Albert Quinn Ingalls (played by Matthew Labyorteaux ) is the adopted son of Charles and Caroline Ingalls in the American historical drama, Little House on the Prairie (1974-1983), loosely based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

The series centres the Ingalls family who live on a small farm near the village of Walnut Grove, Minnesota in the 1870s.

Albert Quinn Ingalls was a young boy who was put in many orphanages as a child where he was often bullied. He ran away when he was very young and lived on his own. The 10 year old was caught stealing by the Ingalls when they arrived in the town of Winoka.

When the time came for the Ingalls to leave Winoka, he came with them back to Walnut Grove. But life was difficult and Albert ran away several times. After searching for his birth father, Jeremy Quinn, for a family tree project at school, Albert was adopted into the Ingalls family.

Later, James Cooper Ingalls (Jason Bateman) and Cassandra Cooper Ingalls (Melissa Francis) were also adopted by Charles & Caroline Ingalls. After they were orphaned, the two children were taken to live with a relative first and were then placed with a foster family. Treated cruelly by the foster father, James and Cassandra ran away. Back in Walnut Grove, they were adopted by the Ingalls.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
