In Care and Incredible: 30 Care Experienced Superstars You Need to Meet

Rosie Canning; Dee Michell

2026

This inspiring collection brings together the stories of 30 remarkable individuals from across history and modern life: athletes, writers, activists, inventors, and leaders who changed the world. Many spent time in foster care, lived with relatives, or were adopted. Illustrated by Lauren Fernandes

In Care and Incredible is a vital representation of resilience and talent from individuals who chose to not let their journey from care define their future goals or dreams, it's an honour to be alongside so many amazing people! -- Dr. Fagan, author of five novels, a memoir Ootlin and eight poetry collections.

What a brilliant book. It shows who we are in real life. I am honoured to be included within this illustrious list. -- Lemn Sissay OBE FRSL

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
