I was taken into care at two years old – what really happened?

Kerry Hudson

2019

Author Kerry Hudson sets out to try and discover why she was taken into care at two years old. In Lowborn, Hudson questions what it really means to be poor in Britain today? A prizewinning novelist she revisits her childhood (including foster care) and some of the country's most deprived towns.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
