Entitlement

Rumaan Alam

2024

Entitlement (2024) by American writer, Rumaan Alam, is a novel about money and morality.

The protagonist is Brooke, a young African American woman who was adopted by a white woman.

Brooke doesn’t need anything, but she wants a lot, including to impress her mother.

She takes on a job helping an elderly billionaire given away his huge fortune and it’s not long before she decides she should be the recipient of that fortune.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
