Darling Girls

Sally Hepworth

2023

Darling Girls (2023) is a crime novel by Australian writer Sally Hepworth.
3 professional women, all former foster kids, are contacted by police because the remains of a child have been found on the grounds of their former foster home.
The story is told from the perspective of each woman as they share their past, their experience in foster care with Miss Fairchild, & the ongoing ramifications of their childhood experiences – addiction, aggression, reluctance to form relationships.
The 4th voice in the novel is that of Miss Fairchild who is *spoiler alert* on remand for killing a baby many years ago.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
