Crime 101 (2026) is an American crime thriller based on the eponymous novella by Don Winslow.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth stars as Mike, a Los Angeles thief. Mike carefully plans robberies to avoid both violence & any evidence being left behind.

Mike grew up as James Davis in foster care. He talks about having been a ‘nobody’ who needed money to prove he was somebody.

David Fear in Rolling Stone Magazine asked on 13 February 2026 whether “we need a backstory involving foster-home stays that are meant to add depth (kind of) to someone’s character, yet also function as easy ways to get from plot point A to plot point B”. He concludes “No, we do not”.

Nick Nolte plays Money, Mike’s fence. He uses Orman (played by Irish actor Barry Keoghan) to double cross Mike. Barry Keoghan was in foster care & kinship care as a child.
