Blacktop Wasteland (2020) by African American writer S.A. Cosby is a Southern noir thriller.

The protagonist is Beauregard “Bug” Montage who was in juvenile detention for 5 years.

Bug left detention at the age of 17 & has led a mostly law-abiding life since.

He & his wife have 2 sons (Bug has an older daughter from an earlier relationship) & he runs a legitimate auto repair business.

However, Bug is currently struggling financially & he is tempted back into a life of crime, agreeing to drive for a diamond heist organized by former associates.

It’s not a life he wants for his sons, and yet he can’t seem to be rid of it for himself.
