Blackshore

2024

Blackshore (2024) is an Irish crime drama starring Lisa Dwan & Rory Keenan.

The protagonist, Dublin detective Fia Lucey, was orphaned as a child. For 20 years it has been accepted that her father killed her mother & brother before turning the rifle on himself.

Fia subsequently grows up in the kinship care of her paternal uncle & his wife & moves to Dublin as soon as she leaves school.

The childhood trauma resurfaces when Fia is sent back to her hometown in the west of Ireland to investigate the disappearance of a woman.

Many town secrets surface, including that a 20-year-old woman has only recently been in contact with her murdered birth mother, Roisin Hurley. We’re not told where the woman grew up.

Trauma warning: This archive contains material relating to care experience including references to abuse, neglect, sexual violence, and institutional harm.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
