Bad Sisters

2022

Bad Sisters (2022) is an Irish black comedy.

The 5 Garvey sisters – Eva (Sharon Horgan), Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula (Eva Bhirthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene) and Becka (Eve Hewson)—grew up in a kinship care arrangement after their parents died.

It’s not clear how old the girls were when they were orphaned, but it was the eldest, Eva, who “gave up everything” to make sure they were in okay.

Now adults living in present-day Dublin, the Garvey sisters are at the centre of an insurance investigation after Grace’s abusive husband, John Paul (Claes Bang), dies.

In the background to the series is an adoptee, the son of Bibi and her partner, Nora.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
