A Gentleman in Moscow (TV series)

2024

A Gentleman in Moscow (2024) is a British historical drama based on the eponymous novel by American writer Amor Towles

The protagonist Count Alexander Rostov (Ewan McGregor) was orphaned as a boy. As a young man he is tried by the Bolsheviks in 1922 and sentenced to house arrest. Now a ‘Former Person’, he lives in the attic of a hotel

Over the years Rostov makes friends amongst the servants and some of the hotel's regulars, even becoming a waiter.

Then in 1938 he is left in temporary care of Sofia (Beau Gadsdon), a young child. For the rest of the story he takes on the role of her parent.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
