American crime writer, Patricia Cornwell, was in foster care as a child.She has recently written about this experience in her memoir, True Crime. She writes about her difficult childhood leading up to & including the time spent in foster care with a woman she experienced as abusive.

True Crime also covers Cornwell’s career as a police reporter, in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia & the development of her forensic pathologist, Dr Kay Scarpetta (now adapted for screen with Scarpetta played by Nicole Kidman)
