The Pale Blue Eye: A Novel (2006) is an American mystery thriller by Louis Bayard.


Set in 1830, retired detective Augustus Landor is asked to investigate the death of a cadet at the West Point military academy.


Landor enlists the help of another cadet, Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe was in foster care as a child, and he was also at West Point as a young man.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group.
