Our babies were taken after 'biased' parenting test - now we're fighting to get them back

BBC News

There have been concerns for years now about Greenlandic families being misunderstood by Danish authorities.

In this article, the BBC has published a story about Greenlandic families who live on the Danish mainland & who are fighting to have their children returned to them.

According to the article, the children were removed after “parental competency tests” were given, tests which the Danish government banned in May this year for use on Greenlandic families.

“Opponents have also long argued that “the tests” are designed around Danish cultural norms and point out they are administered in Danish, rather than Kalaallisut, the mother tongue of most Greenlanders.”

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
