Mr Einstein's Secretary

Matthew Reilly

2023

Mr Einstein’s Secretary (2023) by Australian writer, Matthew Reilly, features an orphaned character.

In 1919, Hanna Fischer is 17 and wanting to study physics. Her neighbour and mentor is Albert Einstein.

After her father is murdered, it is Albert Einstein who organises for the teenager to be sent from Berlin to New York to live with her sister’s mother.

However, Aunt Penny isn’t keen on having another child at home so Hanna is packed off to a live-in secretarial school - where she learns the skills to become Mr Einstein’s secretary.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
