Frank Berry’s The Lost Children of Tuam wins Best Film at the 38th Galway Film Fleadh

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland

2026

The Lost Children of Tuam won Best Film at the 38th Galway Film Fleadh, with the jury praising Frank Berry's sensitive direction and the film's powerful storytelling about Catherine Corless's campaign to uncover the truth behind the Tuam Mother and Baby Home as she uncovers evidence of the unmarked graves of nearly 800 children who died there. The awards recognised the film's emotional impact and its contribution to bringing an important chapter of Irish history to a wider audience.

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
