Children evacuated during Vietnam War's Operation Babylift are on a quest to find their families

ABC News (Australia)

2015

In this ABC News (Australia) article, Elizabeth Wray and Rohan Samara talk about the search for their Vietnamese families.

Both were amongst the thousands of children evacuated from Vietnam as part of Operation Babylift 50 years ago.

Both were also part of a group of 13 adoptees who, last month, cycled from Ho Chi Minh City to Soc Trang – almost 300 kilometres – over 4 days.

The cycling trip was organised by Viet Nam Family Search, a group set up by another Vietnamese-Australian adoptee Sue-Yen Luiten.

Sue-Yen Luiten is hoping there will be “some really positive results from reuniting biological families."

Children and young people in social care, and those who have left, are often subject to stigmatisation and discrimination. Being stigmatised and discriminated against can impact negatively on mental health and wellbeing not only during the care experience but often for many years after too. The project aims to contribute towards changing community attitudes towards care experienced people as a group. See glossary HERE
