When Nell Butler was thirteen in 1989, she was raped after fleeing family violence at home. When she reported the rape, the police charged her with being 'exposed to moral danger' and the teenager was sent to Winlaton Girls' Training Centre. Nell made a documentary about her experiences, Winnie Girls, in 2000. Nell Butler is currently studying for a Master of Publishing and Communications, exploring books by writers with educational disadvantages. Nell has published in NMIT Infusion Literary Journal and Overland.
